Thursday 14 February, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Suitability: Key Stage 3

Booking via nreid@serc.ac.uk

Students will be split between two stations and work in small groups on the following activities:
At station A: Patient Zero (the person with whom the infection began) is central in an epidemiological investigation. Students will begin an epidemiologist search for Patient Zero, modelling how the outbreak of the deadly “SERC VI VIRUS” is spreading. Each Student will be given a sample of simulated body fluid, one being infected with “SERC VI VIRUS”. There will then be a managed transfer of the simulated body fluids and students then test their sample to determine the infection rate.
Infected students will be quarantined. Non-infected students will act as Epidemiologists, to determine the Patient Zero. After a managed transfer of the simulated body fluids, students will then test their sample to determine the infection rate.
