Following a year of wild weather and the IPCC’s dire warning of 12 years left to stabilise the planet, we invite you to join a conversation on one of the most pressing challenges facing humankind – global warming and climate change. Scientific consensus has shown that human-caused emissions of greenhouse gases and removal of carbon sinks through deforestation have changed our climate by increasing the planet’s temperature. This additional heat is trapped in the oceans and atmosphere and is predicted to cause extreme and, in places, catastrophic weather conditions.
BBC NI weather presenter, Geoff Maskell, hosts an afternoon discourse and illustrated documentary on Wild Weather, Physics and Climate Change with Dr Helen Czerski, physicist and oceanographer who presented Climate Change: A Horizon Guide and Prof Peter Thorne, climatologist and lead author on the recent IPCC Climate Report.  This will be an authoritative discussion covering the basic science involved, local examples of climate change and what needs to be done to avert disaster.
