Suitability: All Ages

Many of us watch in awe as we see dramatic volcanic eruptions and destructive earthquakes feature on the news from around the world. But not many of stop and think that these violent events would have wreaked havoc on our own landscape as recently as 55 million years ago. Come and find out more about these events through a series of hands-on activities and interactive demonstrations at the Slieve Gullion Courtyard, located within one of the most recently active volcanic areas in Northern Ireland. You can handle ‘lava’, erupt your own volcano, become part of a human seismic wave, and get to make your very own seismometer as well as lots of other activities throughout the day.
This event is one of a series being organised as part of the proposed UNESCO Global Geopark in Mourne Gullion and Strangford.
