Rather than “a machine for living in”, as proposed by le Corbusier, Rachel Armstrong believes we should move towards “Living Architecture”, i.e. the construction of spaces that possess some of the properties of living things. Why do this you may ask? Well, come along to this talk and find out! Drawing on her experience working on the living architecture research project, funded by the EU’s Future Emerging Technologies Open Horizon 2020 programme, Rachel will discuss everything from using microbes to perform useful ‘work' in our homes to the benefits of using natural systems on the environment to the amazing by-products that comes with using these metabolic technologies.
