Many animals communicate using their sense of smell, releasing odours to get the message across. The insects that live together in social colonies, like ants and honeybees, are the masters (actually, the mistresses) of chemical communication. From sweet flavourings to decongestants, many of the chemicals insects use to speak to each other have surprising uses in the human world. In this fully interactive session Prof. Adam Hart, will immerse you in the smelly and disorienting world of insect pheromone communication, discovering along the way that some of the message, and the smells, are oddly familiar.
