Learning from the Belfast Primark Fire

Friday 15 February, 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Suitability: 14 - 18 Yrs

Free

In 2018, within one hour of starting, the fire at the 118-year-old building that housed Primark quickly took hold of the upper storey and became what we refer to as a “travelling fire”, consuming the entire building within a short period.
The World Trade Centre Towers in New York City in 2001, the Windsor Tower in Madrid in 2005, the Faculty of TU Delft Architecture building in the Netherlands in 2008 and Grenfell Tower in London 2017 - travelling fires have been observed in several structural failures across the world, particularly since 2000. FireSERT will make a laboratory demonstration of how fires spread and travel in an open space commercial compartment small scale.
